Product Description
Leila returns to the land of her birth in search of family and instead discovers she is heir to a fiery elemental birthright...all while navigating through the drama of a new high school with the help of her new best friend "Simone daahling" - a boy with flawless makeup and the catwalk style of Kate Moss. She is introduced to the national sport of rugby and meets an irritating boy that would be much easier to hate if he didn't have chipped emerald eyes that were always laughing at her and a glorious golden smile. (The glistening, bronzed abs and Pacific warrior tattoos didn't help either.) There's hate, love, jealousy, volcanoes and lots of delicious Samoan food in Leila's coming-of-age journey as she realizes that ancient Pacific myths of elemental spirit women Telesa, contain more truth than fiction. Secrets are revealed and things get blown up as Leila must choose between sisterhood and the boy she loves. Can their love stand against the Covenant Keeper?
There are many different kinds of love. All of them require sacrifice. Who will give everything for the one they love?
A thriller-romance with a difference. If you enjoyed Twilight, then you will be enthralled by Telesa as it blends the richness (and humor) of Pacific mythology into a contemporary young adult love story that will stay with you long after you have turned the final page.
" Tired of vampires and werewolves? TELESA has a supernatural element but a unique one... Like Air Benders and X-Men combined. Way cool. The Telesa women are an environmental terrorist group that wield their elemental powers with a fierce beauty and devastating impact..."
Jillian Dodd, Author of 'That Boy' - "How many times do you come across a book that gives you everything you want in a book? Telesa has it all. There's Leila, the girl that we can all relate to. She's smart and confident, but doesn't always know what to do. She goes to Samoa searching for a place to belong. She didn't expect to meet a boy. A certain boy, who she hates at first, who is also SMOKING hot. Daniel. Did I mention I'm in love with Daniel? With his rugby playing abs, amazing muscles, interesting tattoos, and killer smile. He can be vicious and competitive on the rugby field one minute, and sweet and chivalrous the next. Sorry, I'll stop now. This book is not just about Daniel.
This story is the epic tale of Telesa. Leila is a Telesa, but doesn't know it. As she grows to discover her birthright, her powers, her family, and herself, what will she choose? What is her destiny? And does it involve a hot rugby player?
Can't wait for book 2."
13 of 13 people found the following review helpful A Milestone of Epic Proportions, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Telesa - The Covenant Keeper (Kindle Edition) This young adult fiction is the first of its kind being that it is written about Samoans with supernatural powers and by someone of Samoan descent. A milestone never reached thus far by any Samoan (and quite possibly any Polynesian for that matter). Wendt is an amazing descriptive writer and always places the reader in each scene. The love story between the two main characters Leila and Daniel) is sure to please the avid romance reader and leaves you wanting more. Here's an excerpt from her book: "Against my will his beauty took my breath away. He was tall enough that I was sure even my 5'11 height would have to crane up to look in his startling emerald green eyes. Red and gold in the morning sunlight with thick raven brows, one of them flecked with a slight scar, his tousled burnished red-brown hair...He was broad but lean, like a rippling basketball player." A page turner that will have you hooked from the beginning. 20 of 22 people found the following review helpful SWEPT ME AWAY, Lome - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Telesa - The Covenant Keeper (Kindle Edition) This book totally swept me away. I was apprehensive as to what to expect and was totally blown away at how brilliantly Lani depicted the wonderful myth I was told when i was young. Bought it to life and I found myself talking sometimes screaming at the book "NOOOO!" "GET UP!" "Nawww" "YEAHHHH" lol. Such a wonderful book, Made me proud to be Samoan.I think I fell in love with Leila and Daniels love as much as they fell in love with each other lol as corny and silly as that sounds ... Congratulations Lani you are truly a wonderful Samoan writer ... You make Samoa proud and make other Samoans proud to be Samoan just cause your writing its obvious the love you have with your culture and with your island and its people Mostly you just made Samoa sound so desireable and delicious I didnt think that was possible lol... GOod for you Lani and keep up the good work. Cant wait for March 2012 ... Hoping secretly someone with a creative and brilliant mind will put this to a movie cause... Reading Telesa though has allowed me to feel as if I have been to Samoa and have experienced it myself. The main character, Leila, was great, prickly and very likable despite her owly behaviour as her driving force is to find a place where she fits, where she can call home. The love story between Leila and Daniel is sweet and very believable (though there are times that if I were Daniel I would have socked her one right in the nose!) and the relationship Leila has with her mother Nafanua is so well done. I give this book a solid 4.5 stars, only docking a little because I found that the first portion of the book was a bit slow for my taste, though I do understand the need to build a foundation for a story, it still took a bit too long to grab me. But once it did! Wow,... Read more |
